hello from the bongo [Jul. 21st, 2009|05:13 pm]

i am beginning my career. some days it seems more promising than others. that damn recession is too bad. figuring out salaries and insurance is funny. so is networking and schmoozing. im bad at it. i really am. because I don’t know, the entire time someone else is talking, i know exactly what they are doing. and i just don’t like it. and i cant do it authentically. can anyone? im not best friends with everyone i meet, and i don’t like to act like i am. i suppose i would just like things to happen more organically?

mostly i just want ashten and ryan to move. i mean, i like my friends here very much. they are wonderful and i appreciate them. but, i think i will feel more like myself when they are here.  do you ever not feel like yourself? maybe that only happens to introverts. i don’t know.

but you know whats really great? ill be in ohio in a few weeks. i haven’t seen my family since the wedding. oh goodness i miss them, so much. my parents are just so…good. they really are. and I cant wait to be with them. father urie is turning 50 on saturday. i wish i could be there for that.

ryan! ashten! the new brian lee and his orchestra is really good. get it, listen to it. kyle and i have been nonstop since we got it.

wednesday.
i am meeting katie at fido and we are going thrifting. i am excited for this. i went to college with katie, and we mostly would talk in the art building. i ran into her at church and i am excited to spend time with her. she is very sweet and she is a photographer in the area and she is helping me out.

thursday.
i will be spending the day making bread with amy. we both have been wanting to refine our bread making skills. so that will be nice. amy is like my second mother, so its always nice spending time with her.
then ill be then spending the evening with ashley and lauren. our husbands will all be busy with work/band practice so we will do something nice, im sure.

saturday.
all of the byrds in nashville are throwing us a shrimp boil. that should be fun. aunts and uncles and cousins, its all kind of bizarre when youre used to extended family being strangers. but you know, it should be good. aunt maryann won an emmy, did you know that? uncle chuck produced johnny cash and hank williams jr.

i found these on my computer today.

this is what i look like when im trying to look like ashten.

davy took this picture in my photobooth and i found it and i like it.

this is cherilyn, lauren, and myself doing our best davy impressions.

(is it weird that ive been missing marion?)

very much has been happening.

im half way through my last semester of college. this is wonderful, but extremely stressful. my senior show is very soon! Im working on an entirely new conceptual body of work and im so excited about it. im also doing a twelve hour a week internship at the design firm, which is so nice.

my mother and future mother-in-law came to visit last weekend and threw me my second bridal shower. bridal showers are so funny. and I have two more in ohio. four is a lot of bridal showers to have.

kyle and i are buying our first car together. were looking into a toyota matrix because of the good gas mileage and trunk space. we are also house hunting and going to nashville over my spring break to look at some places. im hoping for a two bedroom with hardwood floors and a backyard. lots of closets and counter space would be nice too.

my sister, as of saturday, is officially dating the guy she has been in love with for three years. isn’t that wonderful? this is the first time that all of the hershberger siblings are in relationships at the same time. now we can totally triple date.

eric is moving back from india in two months! he will be here right in time for my graduation (rhonda graduates with her masters on the same day). I want to make a paperchain countdown.

i have a niece! selah mae williams was born friday. i cant wait to see her! she is beautiful.

i am being challenged in so many ways. but, things have been progressing. i have been growing. and the lord is good. he has been teaching me so many things.

this week has been the most intense of my life i think. ive never been so busy. ive never had so much riding on eight days.
and the weekend turned out to be much more intense than i thought due to printing problems with my photodocumentary book.
and today is my birthday and i have been sitting in my living room studying for the past eleven hours. my exams tomorrow are ridiculous, including the dreaded baroque 250 slide identifications.
im glad the fiance is kind. he just brought me ice cream and american spirits. also, the brand new richard avedon book.

three more days. then i will be a homebody for a couple weeks until i go to ohio for christmas.
i will:
clean my room, do laundry (finally), work on wedding shit, watch movies with kyle and elliott, and leave the house as little as possible. oh, and sleep in! i dont remember the last time i slept past 8am. goodness i cant wait.

one semester to go.

dear ones,

good morning. this morning was nice. i woke up a little earlier than usual (before the sun came up). i brewed coffee that i picked up from intelligentsia this past weekend. i read the news and listened to a record (cat power), and then biked to class.
thats where i am now, baroque art, but im having a hard time paying attention. i have so much id like to do today, including:

make final prints for documentary photo
clean the kitchen/my room
go on a long bike ride to the river
finish my etching project for printmaking
catch up on reading for baroque and american government
fix the buttons on my coat
do laundry

the past few weeks have been a lot. short story, kyle got sick and was intense pain. he couldnt walk. i lived at his apartment for a couple weeks to take care of him. i took him to the ER twice, spent hours on the phone trying to find him a doctor, found one finally. took him there. took him to the surgeon. everyone had a different diagnosis. it was actually quite scary. after two weeks of literally no sleep, and many prayers from many people,  things are looking up. and it will be ok. i hope. i believe.

this past weekend i was in chicago. that was nice. really nice actually. it had been too long. and i bought too many things.

and so this weekend will be wonderful. i havent spent a weekend at home all semester. i would have busy weeks and then leave friday afternoon and would get back late sunday night and its all been so draining. this weekend i will sleep in. i will catch up with all sorts of reading and study and shoot and clean and i am very much looking forward to it.

i love you all.

p.s. the james dean festival is this weekend. im totally going to win the lookalike contest.

p.p.s. these are my favorite ribera paintings that we studied this morning.

enjoy.

the past two weeks have been packed with toomanythingstolist.

summary:
kyles graduation
long roadtrip to indiana
moving him in just a few blocks away
me, kyle, rhonda, and mike having the most wonderful week ever

really, its been wonderful. we have been waiting well over two years to not have a long distance relationship. and its finally happened, and its here, and it is amazing.
the four of us have just had such a lovely time. making meals, watching movies, listening to records, talking into the early morning about love and what that means. about who we are and how we have influenced one another. being beautifully honest and vunerable. and its all given me so much energy and hope.

this next year, as much as i want it to go quickly, will be so good. i know this.

sometimes i feel like i dont deserve what ive been given. but thats the beauty of it, i think.

things im looking foward to all in the next month.
nashville with kyle, rhonda, mike
ohio with kyle, rhonda, mike
friends throwing us an engagement party
chicago with kyle, rhonda, mike

p.s. indiana weather is perfect right now.

[mood | working]
[music |the lion king soundtrack / motorcycle blood blood blood]

i was beginning to regret promising to come in for a half day today. im leaving for ohio at 12, and i suppose i thought it would be wise to work until then. but, its already been a very nice morning, besides having to wake up. wes brought i in pancakes for everyone, and of course sausage. (he loves breakfast meats) and soon after we finish eating we will all walk over to mcconn for lattes and americanos.

also, this morning the office was discussing celebrity gossip. apparently miley cyrus is becoming a little bitch and just being childish/mean. and for some strange reason, this made me so sad. which is funny, yes? but it was depressing. oh, girlz.

and, dont tell, but i use only my friends as models for university publications.
[ zack was one of my models for these graduation banners that im doing, and i had to edit pizza sauce off of his chin ]

:)

p.s. im very excited to see you tomorrow. just so you know.
ashten, i thought about that funny memory that i couldnt think of last night.
marcie, you are beautiful, and everyone is a mess sometimes.
jane, remind me to give you something that i bought for you a year or two ago. i always seem to forget. but whats new, right?

___ [Jul. 20th, 2008|06:02 pm]
its been a nice day.

church this morning. lunch at our house. flea market and other errands in the afternoon.
and now rhonda and i are sitting in my room, reading, talking, drinking wine, etc. (the rest of the house is very hot)

i found kyle the perfect apartment, by the way. it has a nice sunroom, and everything has hardwood floors or dark tile. the fixtures are all restored antiques, and theres lots of closet space. and, its only 4 blocks away. perfect.

next weekend ill be going home to spend time with eric before he leaves for india. then i leave for florida for kyles graduation/helping him move to indiana.

and nothing else too wild is going on.

confession:
ive been kind of obsessed with the show lost. dont tell, its kind of embarressing.

the past ten days have been wonderful. the byrd came to visit for his summer break.

highlights include
friends coming to visit for the fourth
a very long night in muncie
celebrating our two year (we exchanged vinyl, and i was also given a yellow fisheye camera)
staying up until sunrise on a workday
indy cd&vinyl, bazbeaux, spending an afternoon in broadripple
baney coming to visit
wedding planning. were making a website. ive been told that this is the thing to do.

because of canceled flights, we were stranded in indy for a few days. we tried to make the most of it, which wasnt too hard.

ive been terrible lately at remembering/caring enough to take pictures. eric snapped a few though.

[rhonda and i turned off cable awhile ago. that was a smart move.]

and my mother is coming to visit this weekend. ive been looking forward to this for some time now.
were planning on watching movies and sewing and going to antique stores.
rhonda and i talk about getting her drunk. but were only joking.

plans for the next month
continue my house/apartment hunt for kyle. hes moving here in one month!
spend much, much less money
find a second job? other people work 60 hour weeks. why cant i?
finalize things for my senior year of college
start riding my bike more. maybe a long ride every evening.
plant herbs
continue reading all of the books on my "to read" list

im exhausted. im planning on staying in for the remainder of the week. no socializing whatsoever.

hello friends, guess where i am? i dont know why the only time i bloggg is when im at work. the thing is, its 830am, and i feel like ive already been here for a few hours. i even went and got coffee, toasted a bagel, chitchatted with gary while he showed me pictures of jaydens 4H project. ashten, this made me think of you.

im really hoping this week goes quickly.

this past weekend was quiet. it was the first weekend this summer where i had absolutely no plans. it was wonderful. im not sure if i made the most of my time though. i did six loads of laundry. i watched this online twentysomething soap opera. www.quarterlife.com (i think you may like this, marcie)

ive also been getting into marriage books. thats funny, right? theyre not bad. interesting and informative, actually. i figure its not a bad investment with my time. because you know, if i read enough about marriage, mine will be kickass. you should read them, just for fun. erin from work has been giving some to me, shes into them. shes also throwing me that bridal shower. will you please come? shes so excited about it, shes been shopping for party favors, and shes invited all the women from work....

i feel like i should put some pictures up, because thats always more fun. ill find what i can.
